Create and configure customizable digital health cards that provide members with instant access to their personalized plan information. This comprehensive guide covers template design, field mapping, and deployment strategies for effective health card implementation.

TALON's digital health card system allows you to create personalized, downloadable health cards that contain member-specific information while maintaining consistent branding and formatting.

Digital Health Cards Overview

TALON's digital health card system allows you to create personalized, downloadable health cards that contain member-specific information while maintaining consistent branding and formatting. Members receive instant access to their cards with automatic updates when plan information changes, eliminating the need for physical card distribution.

Key Benefits

Instant Availability
New members get immediate access to their personalized health cards without waiting for physical delivery.
Automatic Updates
Cards automatically reflect plan changes, benefit updates, and member information modifications.
Custom Branding
Design unique cards for different employer groups with custom logos, colors, and layouts.
Cost Effective
Eliminate printing and distribution costs while reducing lost card replacement issues.

Template Preparation

Before configuring health cards in the system, proper template preparation ensures smooth implementation and professional results.

Technical Requirements

  • PDF Format: Health card templates must be in PDF format
  • Text Selection: All text must be selectable (not images of text)
  • Variable Fields: Dynamic content must use bracket notation [Field_Name]
  • Two-Sided Cards: Upload separate PDFs for front and back (optional)
  • Image Support: Logos and images can be mapped dynamically

Variable Field Notation

To make fields dynamic and personalized for each member, surround variable text with square brackets. The system recognizes bracketed text as fields that should be replaced with actual member data.

Template Design Tips

  • Allow Space: Ensure variable fields have adequate space for different data lengths
  • Test Formatting: Use descriptive placeholder text to verify layout during design
  • Consider Branding: Plan for logo placement and color customization options
  • Font Selection: Use standard fonts that display consistently across devices

Configuration Process

The health card configuration process uses a split-screen interface that provides real-time preview capabilities as you map fields to member data.

Health Card Configuration
1
Create Health Card
Click "CREATE HEALTH CARD" and provide a descriptive name that identifies the card's purpose and target audience.
2
Upload PDF Template
Upload your prepared PDF template. For two-sided cards, you can upload separate PDFs for the front and back.
3
Field Mapping
Use the split-screen interface to drag available data fields from the right panel to corresponding bracketed fields on the left. The preview updates automatically with sample data.
4
Customize Appearance
Map colors and images as needed. Configure logos, background colors, and other visual elements based on employer or plan specifications.
5
Preview & Validate
Review the card preview with sample data to ensure proper formatting, adequate spacing, and correct field mapping.
6
Save Configuration
Save your health card configuration. The card is now ready for plan assignment and member activation.

Plan Activation

After configuring your health card, you must assign it to specific health plans and activate it for member visibility.

Plan Assignment Process

Health cards can be assigned to individual health plans or employer groups. Once assigned and activated, members with those plans will automatically see their personalized cards in their account dashboard.

Activation Steps

  1. Select Health Plans: Choose which health plans should use this card template
  2. Configure Visibility: Set member access permissions and availability dates
  3. Test with Members: Use impersonation features to verify card appearance from member perspective
  4. Enable Download: Activate card generation and download functionality
  5. Monitor Usage: Track card downloads and usage analytics

Testing Requirements

Always test health cards thoroughly using the member impersonation feature before full deployment. Verify that all variable fields display correctly and that the card formatting works across different member profiles and plan configurations.
