Content Tagging System
Learn how to target announcements and widgets to specific employer groups and health plans, ensuring members only see relevant content tailored to their situation.
What is Content Tagging?
Tags provide a powerful way to filter announcements and widgets to specific members based on criteria such as health plan. This targeting capability is essential for creating personalized experiences and ensuring members only see relevant content.
Understanding Content Visibility
Content visibility in TALON works on a default-global basis that can be refined with tags:
- Universal reach across all member populations
- Simple to implement for general communications
- No configuration needed for broad announcements
- Precise audience targeting
- Personalized member experiences
- Relevant content delivery based on member attributes
Important Default Behavior
By default, announcements and widgets are visible to every member across all employer groups and plans until they are tagged with specific targeting criteria. Once tags are applied, content becomes immediately restricted to matching members only.
Creating Tags Step-by-Step
Access the Tags area from the main dashboard navigation menu
Select the CREATE button to initiate tag creation process
Provide a descriptive name that clearly identifies the tag's purpose. You can also add an identifying color code.
Choose the specific health plans this tag should target.
Assign the appropriate Announcements and/or Widgets to be visible for the members of the target Health Plan(s).
Strategic Tagging Applications
Effective tagging requires strategic thinking about your member population and their content needs:
Common Use Cases
- Targeted Announcements: Create employer-specific announcements for policy changes, enrollment periods, or company wellness programs
- Custom Widget Configurations: Display different tools and resources based on employer group or plan type
- Phased Feature Rollouts: Gradually introduce new features to designated member segments before wider release
- Compliance Communications: Ensure regulatory or plan-specific information reaches the correct audience
Pro Strategy Tip
When multiple tags are applied to the same content, they work additively - meaning all conditions must be met for the content to be visible to a member. Use this for precise targeting when you need very specific audience segments.
Tag Management Best Practices
Organization and Maintenance
- Naming Convention: Use clear, descriptive names that indicate purpose and scope (e.g., "TechCorp-Premium-Plan" or "Manufacturing-Group-Only")
- Documentation: Keep records of tag purposes and current assignments for team reference
- Regular Review: Periodically audit tags to remove unused or obsolete ones
- Testing Strategy: Always test tag functionality with sample content before wide deployment
Important Considerations
- Tags work immediately once applied - content visibility changes instantly
- Multiple tags on the same content create AND conditions, not OR conditions
- Always verify tag assignments match your intended audience before activating content
- Consider member experience - too many tags can create fragmented content experiences
Troubleshooting Tag Issues
Common Problems and Solutions
- Content Not Visible: Check if tags are correctly applied and match member criteria
- Wrong Audience Seeing Content: Verify tag assignments and ensure no conflicting tags
- Tags Not Working: Confirm content is set to "Live" status after applying tags
- Multiple Tag Conflicts: Remember that multiple tags require members to match ALL criteria
